A new website for a roofing company with a strong local reputation

Cowichan Valley Roofing didn't need a website to prove they were good at roofing. After 24 years in the industry and 14 years serving the Cowichan Valley, most of their work comes through referrals and word of mouth.

What they did need was a professional online presence that reflected the reputation they'd already built, made it easy for potential customers to find the information they were looking for, and helped establish their business clearly online.

That's where KC Designs came in.

THE PROJECT

Kevin came to me looking for a new website after taking down his previous site. He wanted something professional, straightforward and local that would better represent the business today.

The goal wasn't to create a flashy website. It was to create one that felt like Cowichan Valley Roofing: experienced, dependable, local and straightforward.

The website also needed to support local SEO so that people searching for roofing services in the Cowichan Valley could find the business more easily.

DELIVERABLES

  • Custom Wix Studio website

  • 5-page website

  • Responsive design for desktop, tablet and mobile

  • Custom page layouts and styling

  • Service pages and service descriptions

  • About page focused on the company's experience and local reputation

  • SEO-focused Service Areas page

  • Local SEO page titles and meta descriptions

  • SEO keyword research and implementation

  • Contact and quote call-to-actions

  • Google reviews integration

  • Image preparation and optimization

  • WebP image conversion for improved website performance

  • Website launch and setup

THE CHALLENGE

How do you communicate an established local reputation online?

One of the biggest challenges wasn't technical. It was figuring out how to communicate what makes an established local business different from every other company offering the same service.

Cowichan Valley Roofing has been around for years, and Kevin has built a strong reputation through referrals. That meant the website needed to communicate experience and trust without sounding like a generic corporate roofing company.

There was also an important local positioning issue. Kevin had experienced other roofing companies using similar versions of the Cowichan Valley Roofing name, which made it even more important that his own website clearly establish the company's identity and history.

Rather than making questionable or overly aggressive claims, I focused the messaging on what could be demonstrated: experience, longevity, local service, direct communication with the owner and a strong referral-based reputation.

That led to the positioning:

“The name locals know for roofing.”

Simple, confident and local without trying too hard.

THE SOLUTION

Keep the design as straightforward as the business.

The visual direction was intentionally clean and practical, using a black, white and grey palette with gold accents for calls to action and important details.

The design needed to let the roofing photography do a lot of the work. Rather than filling the site with unnecessary graphics or effects, I used strong project photography, clear typography and plenty of space to create a professional look.

The navigation was kept simple so visitors can quickly find:

Services → About → Service Areas → Contact

For a local service business, the goal is simple: visitors should be able to figure out what you do, where you work, why they should trust you and how to contact you without having to hunt for it.

BUILDING THE SITE AROUND LOCAL SEO

A beautiful website is only part of the job. For a local business, it also needs to make sense to search engines.

I structured the site around the services and locations that matter to Cowichan Valley Roofing, including:

  • Roof repairs

  • Re-roofing

  • Metal roofing

  • Shingle roofing

  • New construction

  • Gutters and gutter cleaning

  • Residential and commercial roofing

  • Cowichan Valley communities from the Malahat to Ladysmith and Lake Cowichan

The Service Areas page was created specifically to provide additional useful, location-focused content rather than simply stuffing a list of towns onto the homepage.

Page titles, meta descriptions and on-page content were also written with local search intent in mind.

The goal isn't to promise a particular Google ranking. It's to give the business a solid, well-structured foundation for being found by the people actually looking for its services.

MAKING THE PHOTOS WEBSITE-READY

Kevin had a large collection of project photos, which was great for the site but also meant the images needed some work before being uploaded.

I selected and prepared the strongest images, applied a consistent visual treatment and optimized them for the web.

Images were exported as WebP files at appropriate sizes to help keep the site looking sharp without unnecessarily slowing it down.

This is one of those behind-the-scenes parts of website design that clients don't necessarily see, but it makes a difference to the finished website.

THE RESULT

The finished website gives Cowichan Valley Roofing a professional online home that reflects the business they have built over the last 14 years.

It's clear, easy to navigate and built around the information potential customers actually need:

What services do they offer?Where do they work? How experienced are they? Can I trust them? How do I get a quote?

Most importantly, it feels local and authentic to the business rather than looking like a generic roofing template.

WHY THIS MATTERS FOR SMALL BUSINESSES

Not every small business needs a huge website with dozens of pages and complicated features.

Sometimes the best website is one that simply does its job really well.

For a local service business, that might mean a handful of well-designed pages, clear service information, strong photography, local SEO and an easy way for customers to get in touch.

That's the approach I take with small-business websites at KC Designs.

I work with you to understand your business, figure out what your customers actually need to know and build a website that looks professional and is practical for your day-to-day business.

And because I build in Wix Studio, you aren't left with a website that requires a developer every time you need to change a phone number, add a photo or update some information.
